That's what the little girl has been saying.

(A legal drinker since October, but a little girl nevertheless.)

She spent Christmas Eve with her mother picking up plaster and cleaning up the general mess in the living room while I occupied this desk downtown.

I had told Father Deacon at St. Michael's that there would be one less tenor for the Vigil of the Nativity, and he informed me that the other one couldn't make it either. Couldn't be helped. Fortunately for us the big day is Theophany, January 6, or, it being a weekday, the night before.

Of course we were too exhausted to make it to the carol service at Lincoln Center's St. Paul the Apostle, or even their Christmas Day mass in the morning, but all were up and dressed in time for the noon mass at Blessed Sacrament, where we were married, and where Srsti was bapatized, had her first Communion, and was confirmed.

Christmas Eve dinner was at the Penang on 71 st, and after mass the next day we went home for leftovers, and opened gifts. Srsti got everything she wanted, the hair dryer, and the book and DVD of A Christmas Story, and two more books besides. Yes, our Perfect Little Irish Brahmin Baby is a Shep-head, just like [livejournal.com profile] seraphimsigrist -- and (more to the point) her Old Man. Maya opened the box with the garnet earrings she had picked out herself, and I got the Mother of All Christmas Presents, Heidegger's lectures on Plato's Sophist.

Alas, I couldn't take it to bed to read at once as the kid just had to be taken to the movies to see Love Actually for the third time, after which she and her mother agreed to go again in January, and what the hell, I might just come along myself.

So much for my pretence of intellectualism.

I rested and read before going out for Peking duck at China Fun.

I went to sleep to the music of Dasein discovered while Maya packed her suitcase for the MLA at the foot of the bed. (She called from JFK and is boarding or close to boarding a flight for San Diego even as I type this entry.)
