This specific motivation for the support of Israel is never preached from any fundamentalist pulpit. The faithful hear sermons -- many, many sermons -- on the pretribulation Rapture. But they do not hear the two themes put together: "We can avoid death, but only because two-thirds of the Jews of Israel will inevitably die in a future holocaust. Just because American premil-dispys believe that the Jews will be massacred during the time leading up to the Second Coming, does not mean their purpose is to see Jews dead. After all, as I recall, another thing that's supposed to happen is the conversion to Christ of a Jewish remnant; so you could just as easily argue that they support Israel in order to win more Jewish souls.
I think North's conclusion is the real angle: they want the Rapture to happen as soon as possible so that they can go directly to Heaven without having to suffer or die.
