Gary North on Christian Zionism:

The Unannounced Reason Behind American Fundamentalism's Support for the State of Israel

This specific motivation for the support of Israel is never preached from any fundamentalist pulpit. The faithful hear sermons -- many, many sermons -- on the pretribulation Rapture. On other occasions, they hear sermons on the Great Tribulation. But they do not hear the two themes put together: "We can avoid death, but only because two-thirds of the Jews of Israel will inevitably die in a future holocaust. America must therefore support the nation of Israel in order to keep the Israelis alive until after the Rapture." Fundamentalist ministers expect their congregations to put two and two together on their own. It would be politically incorrect to add up these figures in public

Full story here.

In short, the people behind Bush support Likud only because they desire the extermination of the Jews. When will American Jews wake up to this ugly fact?

Mr. North takes up the theme again in a new article posted by Lew Rockwell today. You can subscribe to Rockwell's feed here.

When Christians argue that Israel should be protected now because Israel's demise is foretold in the end of days, that's not the same as wishing for the extermination of Jews, anymore than Orthodox Mizrachim who believe that Israel has no right to exist are wishing for the extermination of Jews. Feh, that's using the left's own reasoning to make arguments, and right-wing skeptics of Israel can do better.

You may have a point here.

But when these people say they love Israel and the Jews they mean the 144,000 who will save themselves by conversion. This must be understood.

But, as [livejournal.com profile] metaphorge points out, it's not just a majority of the Jews they want to see exterminated and sent to Hell for all eternity, but a majority of all of us.

The hope for this happening soon is not a good basis for U. S. foreign policy.
