If America is the beacon and bastion of our embattled Western world, and, indeed, the best hope of the other civilizations we share the globe with, it is because of our hardy perennial traditions of reason respectful of the mysteries of the universe, and faith similarly humble before realities as yet unknown, traditions not well-known to modern Europe. In the great contention which lies before the world, our adversaries are not the Muslim terrorists of the recent past or any other similar threat yet unrecognized (recall that the original suicide bombers were Hindus of Sri Lanka), but the traitors within our own walls, those fanatics who would abolish reason in the name of faith or faith in the name of reason. Our wakeup call was on September 11, 2001; because we still had no clue what was going on, Benedict of Rome clarified the matter five years and a day later. While it is good to be prepared for any military emergency, it is necessary to use our power with the greatest prudence and restraint, and not allow anyone to use any emergency as a pretext for subverting the very basis of our strength. Whether our politicians acknowledge it or not, our warfare is a spiritual warfare, and the main battlefields are in the regions of culture and intellect, where it is not always easy to tell who is with us and who against. But the most important thing is to know, with greater precision than we are used to, just what it is we are standing for. These few words have been intended to assist in that clarification.

Spiritual Warfare
Date: 2006-11-29 06:11 pm (UTC)nailed it, "we have met the enemy
and he is us." Preacher politicians
work on the emotions but probably
don't or don't want to have a clue
as to what metaphysical evil is or
the source of it. Creating a police
state is antithetical. Sad when our
country's values have to be clarified,
having become such a muddy mess.
Keep posting more of this. You say
it so well with an economy of words.
