This and That

Ventured outside to go to the orthopedic fellow, who looked at my left leg and showed me that the problem is not in the knee, where I feel the pain, but in the hip. The hip I lay on for how many hours of surgery and how many hours of bedrest afterward. I will see a physical therapist twice a week starting Monday and see what happens. If I don't start getting my range of motion back, being able to tie my left shoe (when it is on my foot) for example, he will see what else can be done. And if the cyst or nodule which appeared yesterday in the palm of my left hand starts hurting I should call the hand specialist in his practice.

I somehow managed to overcome my mental and spiritual paralysis to the extent of making a start on my overdue project, and almost felt myself getting my groove back, as they say, before leaving for the doctor.

I find myself less obsessed with the job I wrote away for and the essay I allowed to be circulated and more with the coming disaster in Iran.

I fell asleep dressed a couple of hours ago, but the leg pain woke me up, and I had to put some food away in the kitchen and turn off the 'puter anyway.

Good luck with the pain management. I hope it can be resolved without recorse to surgery or mind-numbing painkillers. (Although the latter can make for an amusing vacation from reality, coming back is never fun.)

And I'm with you on Iran. Nothing like starting a second unwinnable war while in the middle of the first one.

I find painkillers unsatisfactory. I am told that the street price of the pills I have around makes me a rich man in theory. I don't get people who smoke them (yes, smoke them!) for fun. A nice glass of malt, or bourbon if I am feeling cheap, is a good high for me.

Unwinnable either way. We don't bomb the shit out of them, they open the oil bourse in Euros, and the dollar is down the tube.

If the United States has had it as a world power, that might not be so bad for the average American. But isn't Israel afraid of killing the goose that lays its golden eggs? Of course there are Jews who suspect they might be better off without Israel...
