A picture of a man I wouldn't want to cross, and am greatly pleased to have had on our side. In this portrait I can't help seeing a powerful sense of humor kept well under control as he puts on a fierce scowl for the photographer. Or am I mistaken?

It's interesting all the posts you've made about Cardinal Graf von Galen, as it seems he was one of the major inspirations for the members of the White Rose. :)

He must have been. I strongly suspect Dietrich von Hildebrand was too, though I can't document this.

i'm not familiar with either men, which is a shame, but i am familiar with "a powerful sense of humor," and i'm not sure i see it in this man, just because of his photograph.
