Nine Days and Counting

"In the case of Vendyl Jones, he plans to uncover the lost Ark of the Covenant by Tisha b`Av. It was the resting place of the Ten Commandments, given to the Jews at Mt. Sinai and supposedly hidden just before the First Temple was destroyed. Although the Talmud says the Ark is hidden under the Temple Mount, Jones believes the tunnel continues 18 miles to the south and is now in the Judean Desert. Jones is not Jewish, although his daughter Sarah has converted and lives in Samaria (Shomron). However, he is learned in Torah and Talmud and has contact with a mysterious kabbalist who has now given him his blessing to reveal the Ark by Tisha B`Av (August 14th), the anniversary of the destruction of both the First and Second Temples.

"But Jones is not alone in his search."

Not.

"Since returning from Israel, Vendyl has answered many letters and phone calls, asking about this date. He has also addressed this in his various classes via PalTalk. We were not initially aware how widespread this statement has become, quoted in many newspapers throughout the Jewish world. Of course it has caused a lot of excitement. However, Vendyl was slightly, but significantly, misquoted. What he actually said was that it would be very appropriate IF he could discover the Ark by Tisha B’Av. At this time it is obviously not going to happen. However, as soon as the funding permits, he will be in Israel to drill the bore hole and proceed with the dig to uncover the Tabernacle and the Ark. We are hoping that this will be in September."

Sorry to get your hopes up!

Good luck to them.

Of course, Ethiopian Christians claim to have the Ark in Axum. They won't let anyone see it, though. (Personally, I'd be afraid to go anywhere near it.)

Well, now, this raises an interesting question.

If Christianity is true, then do Christians have any special status vís-a-vìs the Ark?

ohhh good question.

I may be wrong here, I'm just an atheist who watches too much History Channel, but isn't the second coming predicated on the rebuilding of the Temple.

And wouldn't the Temple be incomplete w/out the ark it used to hold?

Ergo, find the ark, rebuild the Temple, voila, rapture.

/me shuffles away single Blondie's "Rapture".

That's only one school of Christian eschatology that's gotten a lot of attention in recent times. It's far from the only one.

tell me more if you have the time. I am very interested in hearing them.

Here (http://www.bible.org/page.asp?page_id=1672) is a good place to start.

thanks!

damn. beat me to it!

I just smile and nod at the "code" people and their cute little antics. No one has told them that you can force anything to mean anything if you try hard enough.

Very interesting. Thanks for posting that.

Any relation to Indiana?

In fact, Spielberg named the Indiana Jones character after him.

He's been looking for this thing for a long, long time.

I do declare! So there is substance to this and Hollywood made a joke out of it?

Actually, the real Jones was a consultant for the movie. He had two conditions:

1) that they not use his real name, hence Indiana rather than Vendyl
2) that they not set the location of the ark's discovery in Israel

"I named the DOG 'Indiana.'"

Alas, not true. Vendyl Jones has claimed this, but both Spielberg and Lucas deny it. The script was in fact written two years before Jones made his claims, and Lucas maintains that the first name of the character is, in fact, named after a dog, after all. :)
