At least MeFi is back. For now.

a perhaps greater concern?

well everyone looks for the other side taking an
advantage, and the guy is understandably unhappy
about a denial of service attack but it doesnt seem
to me that his bias to Kerry has ever been expressed
as strongly in the main part of the site as in this
complaint, so while the hackers after him may just
be fooling around or may be hackers who dont like his
slant, it seems to me he is making more propaganda
now than at any time before so there is little loss
to the Kerry side whatever...
However isnt it a concern that a memo from the ABC
director of news told people to use a more critical
standard with the President than with John Kerry? and
that he was not dismissed?
This seems like a rather serious thing in a way
although it is fairly normal and part of the perhaps
still more or less balancing assymetry of power access
in this country. But one would rather that ideally
journalists not be biased except in editorial circumstances
of course...

I wonder.

ABC is pretty much a liberal propagnda mill, so that is expected.

I was personally disappointed to see the electoral vote site offline, as I like to check it for a fair reporting of the poll results, and it is depressing if somebody is attempting to take them down for just this reason.

well you are able to say that but I notice
a good many people on livejournal are so
zealous for mr Kerry that they say well
after the debate flood these addresses with
your polling because if you dont all the
networks will give Bush the edge...this is
of course far from the case(perhaps Fox
is exceptional). but people all are afraid
of losing out at every point.

I never had any trouble reaching his site,it
seems a good selection of polling information,
he does perhaps try to spin a bit but only
in the margins and as is his right in the links.
I wonder if he is not playing the paranoia card
as a form of propaganda, but also I think it is
possible some hackers are after him in the
spirit of school boys who will go after anything
identified with the other side. I would be
distressed if fox news were so symmetrical as
to behind this!

You hit the nail on the head here. Some political operatives are frat boys with pretentions -- look at the idiots who ruined Nixon! (All right, he had something to do with it himself, I admit.)

By the way I read a lot of folks on LJ who are Bush fanatics, going on about how all criticism is treason, and so on.

yes that is also not helpful.
I wonder if ,apart from psychology
if that is possible, at least partly
a fact that many people do not how to
write well and least of all in a measured
way. Sometimes I feel that, with people
sounding off, that they are unable to
argue in a calm way through never having
learned how or seen or read example.

I saw that today, too...I check it just because it's a balance for me, and it's more realistic and up-to-date than the openly biased conservative poll trackers. Upon seeing that, my initial reaction was, "Why on earth would 'professional' Republicans go to the trouble of shutting down E-V.com?" It seems to me to be entirely irrational for anyone to attack someone for saying what the polls say. Of course, he also has stuff like this (http://www.electoral-vote.com/info/records.html), which is hardly balanced. He seems to be playing the victim. On the other hand, it could be serious and he might actually be being attacked. If he is, we should find out who it is and smack them.

All I have to say is God bless rock solid Linux Systems. A microsoft server would have gone down in a heartbeat.
