Cambridge to Chicago: A Poet's Journey
Mar. 23rd, 2005 02:08 pm"He had us all fooled," said C.J. Laity, who knew Porter from poetry readings. "I've known him for many, many years. Obviously, I didn't know him as well as I thought."
A Year in the Life
Mar. 23rd, 2005 10:20 pmA year ago yesterday the boss came to my cube and informed me that I was history. Besides overage, overweight, and overqualified.
I collected unemployment almost as long as I could, did college teaching for even less money, took on an editorial project, and, as many of you will recall, got distracted by medical issues.
This afternoon I got a message from some guys I sent a resume to yesterday, for a sortware training project beginning a week from Sunday. The interview is tomorrow. Good thing my left shoe was fitting again. At least once I got it on. (The shoe, I mean. Out of the gutter, people.)
It's only a three week project. Good. Less risk hiring a guy who may look a little "off." As in, What the fuck is that old fart, the Pinkerton?
I have a feeling that there will be others, if this one works out. Projects, not rentacops.
So again, friends, keep those prayer wheels spinning.
And the other wheels engaged.
