Many thanks to all, known and unknown, who sent me your thoughts, prayers, and messages of encouragement.

The retina didn't detatch -- yet. The vitreous membrane or layer or whatever it is called did. If the retina does it will tear first, but hasn't so far, and if it does it will probably start to before November, at which time the ophth will observe it and do something about it. (I woke him up Monday night and he saw me first thing yesterday morning, as it might well have been more serious and needed immediate drastic action.)

There is no pain, but for the time being I am seeing the world on one side through what looks like the ghost of hair from the bathtub drain floating around in the eyeball until it gets reabsorbed, which will take a while. I must admit that I find it rather upsetting. I suppose I can get used to it, especially as I am reassured that it won't get worse. Probably.

I won't be keeping up with your journals very well, so you are on the honor system.

And I just got some galley proofs I have to go over and send back. Peachy keen.

Cheers

P.S. Will make a separate entry about something that may interest some of you.

With appropriate apologies to all you militant nonfluffies out there.

She insisted she was not worried by a prospect that frequently moves criminal defendants to tears: "This is the start of a great adventure."
