That's a really neat idea...and I'm an animal lover, but these people need to eat.

There was one charity I used to love to give to, but I lost track of it so I think they may not have made it. They would go to a small village, pick out a couple of men, give them seeds and tools and training in how to grow certain crops that would grow in the area, and in return they would have to promise to train ten more men for whom the seeds and tools would be provided, either in their village or a neighboring one. I LOVED that idea -- the whole "teach a man to fish" thing. I don't know what happened to it though. (and I can't remember the name now, it's been years) I think, since a lot of it was taking place in Africa that the unrest and wars going on there may have sunk it.

I don't think they're being given the animals primarily to eat, but to provide milk, wool, honey, to pull plows, and so on.

Of course when herds increase, some goats will be eaten...
