A Cross for Our Lady of Dresden

"My father used to tell me about the horrors and the suffering of Dresden," Mr Smith said. "He did not want it to be forgotten. By working on the cross I've come closer to my father and it's my way of saying goodbye to him and fulfilling his wishes."

Didn't Goethe also write about the Cross being blown off of the Dresden cathedral? I remember the line, "Das hat der Feind gethan!"

The leader of my German Circle ( a German married to an Englishman) acted as interpreter to the British Dresden group/movement, in fact our last meeting of the year was cancelled so Gudrun could go to Dresden for this ceremony.

I haven't been back to Dresden since the Wende- not for thirty years in fact.
It was a truly deformed and frightening place then.
