I drove down to the Huntington when their Amorphophallus bloomed a few years ago. Here I was, thinking that I had a uniquely fin-de-siecle, Huysmansesque idea – off to view the corpse flower! – but when I arrived I was met with a ninety minute wait to see it. (One could smell it, however, from the parking lot.) The public does love a good, um, rare & stinky blossom, I guess.

I watched the bloom online, not at the Huntington, but somewhere in the Midwest.
