Nothing is so unworthy of a civilized nation as allowing itself to be governed without opposition by an irresponsible clique that has yielded to base instinct. It is certain that today every honest American is ashamed of his government... If the American people are already so corrupted and spiritually crushed that they do not raise a hand, frivolously trusting in a questionable faith in lawful order of history; if they surrender man’s highest principle, that which raises him above all other God’s creatures, his free will; if they abandon the will to take decisive action and turn the wheel of history and thus subject it to their own rational decision; if they are so devoid of all individuality, have already gone so far along the road toward turning into a spiritless and cowardly mass - then, yes, they deserve their downfall.

Clyde Wilson posted the first sentence here in Lew Rockwell's blog today. I tracked down the complete text, and posted a longer excerpt as a link to it.

I made one change, "German" to "American."

No, I do not equate the occupation of Iraq and the vile means necessary to secure it as equivalent to the crimes of the Nazi regime. Yet. But if we do not stop this it will become as bad or worse within a short generation. Yes, I give President Bush great credit for expressing the honest revulsion we all feel. But if he believes that decent, humane, American behavior can obtain the objectives of the Likudnik jihadists in his administration, goals he evidently regards as necessary to the second coming of Jesus Christ, he is in denial.

I full heartedly agree. . . that's exactly my thoughts. These "New Vulcans" and Fundamentalist he courts are taking him beyond what he and WE can handle.

I would give Bush more credit if he took some action. His apologies are meaningless as long as Rumsfeld is still Secretary of Defense.
