"It took a moment or two for it to sink in when I was told that I needed to keep an official record when I married; what is more, that I needed to keep a record of everyone I married."

There are folks out there who would give their eyeteeth to be ordained as Anglican priests. Maybe they just don't go to the right dojo. That may be more important than belonging to the right church.

One is speechless.

O God, spare us. Have these episcopi vagantes no shame? And does this guy have any clue that his ordination is invalid -- indeed, any clue what Holy Orders are and what makes them valid -- or what his responsibilities would be if he were a real priest?

I've heard through the grapevine that there are (or at least, were, at the time) independent Anglicans in my own town who'd ordain me on the spot in exchange for my undying loyalty *snort*. But I don't want anything to do with these people. Joining a tiny separatist cultish splinter group that has no serious interest in being part of the One Church is not my idea of Christian ministry.

I believe that is the "Anglican Communion of the Blessed Pontifical Garage." Their cathedral is a little cluttered with tools, an old car, and some oil spills. And, from what I have heard, the cathedra is piled high with non-perishables. Talk about loaves and fishes!

Gah.

Although this whole thing is absolutely silly...part of me wonders what is more silly: This dude's Kung Fu Consecration, or the pontificate of Frank Griswold. I have no answer.

It is the prevalence of the latter sort of behavior that has made so much of the former sort of behavior possible.

Goodness. A friend of mine, who is slated for ordination to the diaconate on June 19th, is busy with a crash-course in Spanish as required by the Diocese of Los Angeles, planning for a postulants' retreat, and preparing for guest preaching duties, not to mention working hard to pay back Yale Divinity School for his advanced degree. Poor guy, I think he's been duped into thinking ordination is some sort of ordeal.

The guy got ripped off.

Why go through all that trouble, what with the messy oil and silly ceremony and all that, just to become a priest?

Doesn't he know that he's already a pope (http://totl.net/Kipple/pope.html)?
