I have this hilarious visual of him realizing his predicament, ala Johnny Depp in Pirates when he was trying to remove his manacles.

How did he get to the phone? That's a funny visual as well, dragging the cross across the room "ouch damn, that smarts" as he accidentally cuts a corner too close.
