Half a Mind is Better Than None

If I had a few dollars more in my pocket I would have half a mind to mosey over to the Lafayette and watch the ladies (and gentleman) I know do the dance they do. If they did it to live music. If the food weren't so bad. If the academic side of the family didn't find my taste for matters Middle Eastern, these matters at least, deplorable and indeed embarassing.

So.

Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to church I go!

Half a mind is a somewhat inconvenient thing to waste.

Church instead of belly dancing? I didn't know men did that kind of thing. I have seen the ladies at a great little Greek restaurant back in Ohio and I enjoyed them. Ah, well, not everyone likes belly dancing, but I do. I think it's quite beautiful. How was church?

If he or you or I for that matter went to a
Syrian church the two things might be no more
removed than the distance from the sanctuary to
the church hall, Metropolian Anthony Bashir loved
belly dancing and would generously stuff bills
into the dancers meager costumes as they went by...

The Melkite who hangs with us on Sundays had an Middle Eastern dancer (one doesn't use the "b" word) at his ordination. Some prude who objected was reprimanded by the Bishop.

My friend was introduced to the art by the wife of the Greek priest who owned the studio her flamenco troupe used for rehearsals.

The other tenor showed up, thank goodness, though still no bass. This year I am not even attempting the prostrations, so half the time I feel like a tourist at a mosque. The melodies for Lent are appropriately mournful, though less so than the Melkite.

As for the dance, my teacher friend says men are better because they have no boobs to get in the way!

Right. And seeing a guy dancing like a sinuous snake is better than seeing a voluptuous woman. Guy must be gay. LOL

who was dancing at the Lafayette tonight?

And i'm quite sad that the Noga group is no longer performing on Friday nights at the Lafayette... even though i don't live in NY. But if i did, i'd be even more sad.

Rocky and her friends.

I used to be a regular. Then Bullwinkle retired.

I never made it on Friday, when I want to put this part of town behind me. I guess if I want to hear Noga now I will have to make it down to the Cupping Room on a weekend. Assuming they still play there.
