Oh, well

Thought I had a good shot at a think tank position. And maybe I did, but if so, somebody had a better one. There is another one open at another institution, and the same folks have encouraged me to apply, so I put in a couple of hours rewriting the letter, though I was told to leave it pretty much the same -- but I couldn't, it was too focused on the institution.

Well, wish me luck. This one is a couple of hours further away, but only a block from public transportation, and I am not a driver.

And if I get it, hope the place doesn't get nuked when things get hot in a month or so.

Which think tank(s)?

Really shouldn't say just yet. Both pretty paleocon, though. One inside the Beltway, one a little outside it.

Just wondering if I might know anyone. I spent several years with Vancouver's Fraser Institute (http://www.fraserinstitute.ca/) which, on a good day, is something like Cato. On bad days it's rather like Heritage.

ISI (I was a chapter leader almost 40 years ago, and do some work for them now) and IHS, a new kid on the block.

I was a finalist for a position with a Fairfax-based think tank a few years ago. Lost out to a former IHS President. Would've got the job had it not been for the fact that hiring a Canadian is a colossal pain in the butt. Ahhh well. These things happen.

They do, don't they.

That's what I get for being a bag-man instead of a proper wonk.
