Good News from my daughter's first music teacher:

NYFA AUDIENCE ARTIST EXCHANGE EVENT WITH

COMPOSER JUDITH SAINTE CROIX and

ANDREW BOLOTOWSKY, FLUTIST, performing scenes from a

Rainforest OPERA

TUESDAY, June 17, 2003, 6:30 PM-7:30 PM

In the Auditorium of the Flushing Borough Queens Library, Flushing Queens FREE

Composer, pianist, vocalist, Judith Sainte Croix and flutist, Andrew Bolotowsky will perform the following three scenes from Ms. Sainte Croix’s opera The Vine of the Soul.

THE FLOWER ARIA in which Ms. Sainte Croix, in the role of Chirohe, an indigenous healer, sings of her love for a new, healing Flower in the forest. The mysterious Flower, represented by Mr. Bolotowsky’s flute, incites portents of doom in Chirohe, which are confirmed by the arrival of Howard, an ethnobotonist intent on mining the Flower for a pharmaceutical company. Howard is stopped by Chirohe’s poisonous dart, not to awaken again until he finishes the dangerous journey of a Visionary Dance.

BETHANY’S DANCE, for flute and piano, is a scene from this Visionary Dance. The Dance, in the opera, is created by a Spirit Being, Lizard, as a method of saving Howard’s life. In this scene Howard’s terminally ill daughter, Bethany, appears to him alive and well.

THE DUET, for flute and piano, also from the Visionary Dance, is a scene in which Bethany transforms into the Flower and speaks to her father in the language of the Sprits of Nature. The healing powers of the Flower then become more than medicinal.

Bring information about your favorite green company to share in the course of the event. There will be audience participation activities.
