When last we heard -- apart from the list of musicians who recorded in the City of Roses, Richmond, Indiana -- I was laboring at an ideological autobiography which split into two chapters, Elton Trueblood and the Spectre of Barnaby Parsnip, and Confessions of a Young Conservative. It now looks like the latter will be followed by Reflections of an Old Liberal, and We Radicals, and I suppose other stuff. Lately I have been working on an opening chapter, Intimation Clear of Wider Scope: Faith, Reason, and Terror Today. At least that's today's title; "intimation clear of wider scope" comes from my hero Rufus Jones. The Quaker, not the drummer. Have to put a few more sentences in, clean up and tinker and that sort of thing. I am putting in a lot of time and even thought -- I hope the thing will find an audience. Or is it a matter of Ho, hum, the elections are over and 9/11 is now to be forgotten? Old Rome has not forgotten, as Benedict's remarks of September 12 make clear. I shall probably spend as much time as I can tomorrow viewing him in New Rome, and of course hoping he makes it back.

Maybe more on this stuff if anybody is interested.
