I woke up very early this morning, unable to sleep or work, so went on line for a while in a time-killing sort of way. Yup. Myspace. And found, at four thirty in the morning, that my account was suspended because of a plethora of unsuccessful log-ins. In fifteen minutes I went in again, resolved to change my password to a harder one for a bot to guess. But to do that I needed the old one, and had forgotten it. So I had it emailed to my address of record. Several times. Zilch. Zero. Zip. Nada.

So I decided to change my addy from my domain (forwarded to myway) to my yahoo. Couldn't do it -- that required receiving email at address of record. Problem was that evidently myway has blacklisted namesecure, my forwarding agent. So I went to namesecure and changed the forwarding address back to yahoo, and am now happily getting lots, I mean lots, of spam. And maybe one or two things that I would want to get. So I changed my info on myspace to the yahoo addy, and, yes, put in a robotproof password.

As if there were anything worth looking at on myspace.

At least now I am tired enough to sleep, having written about two thirds of one of the eight college profiles I am contracted to do.

Messiah College. Grantham PA. Frankly, it doesn't deserve inclusion in the book, but the marketing director of the publisher is a fanatical alumnus. So I am writing in the spirit of the founder of the Republican Party who said, If you're the sort of person who likes that sort of thing, well, that's just the sort of thing you would like.

No core curriculum, but compulsory chapel twice a week, attendance taken by presentation of your electronic student ID. I remember Bill Rogers, who went on to Harvard and then Guilford, proposed just that system to enforce Earlham's weekly convocations forty years ago. But in a spirit of reductio ad absurdum.
