It's back to work I go. At least part time. Adjunct Assistant Professor of English (freshman composition), and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Language and Cognition (advanced ESL) at Eugenio MarĂa de Hostos Community College, CUNY. I addition to some work as Contributing Editor of Choosing the Right College 2006.

My wife's chairman and the chairman down the hall were truly desperate, desperate enough to hire a philosopher of higher education rather than a literary scholar.

So I am back in the South Bronx, one subway stop before one of the places I taught for the Board of Education. Indeed, at least four of my former adult basic education students were later graduated from Hostos.

Just as my unemployment insurance benefits were running out. Now must be concerned about January.

"Considered now as a possession, one may define culture as the residuum of a large body of useless knowledge that has been well and truly forgotten. In order to see how this is so, let us take the simplest possible illustration. Let us suppose that I say to you, "Plato says so-and-so." You reply, "I think not. I can not speak positively, for I have long forgotten every word of Plato that I ever read. But all of Plato that I have read and forgotten, taken together with all I have read of a great many other authors and likewise forgotten, has left me with a clear residual impression that Plato never said anything like that." Then you look it up and find that you are right." -- A. J. Nock , thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lhasa7.
