"In a city the size of New York, where a few murders a day are commonplace, such minor vandalism can't possibly justify the millions of dollars spent to keep protestors at bay. And it is hard to imagine that some of the cops and top brass don't realize how ridiculous it is to use overwhelming presence and firepower on a bunch of scruffy, backpacked kids. The protesters weren't the type to instigate the mayhem that police had prepared themselves for.

"Ironically, the protesters and the NYPD may have both gotten something they wanted out of the protests – numbers."

Subject: Must See TV: Wallis and Falwell on CNN tonight!

Dear SojoMail reader,

Rev. Jim Wallis and Rev. Jerry Falwell will appear "live" tonight on CNN's popular television program "Anderson Cooper 360." The hour-long program airs at 7 p.m. EST, and the Wallis-Falwell segment is scheduled to run closer to 7:30 p.m. Please check your local listings for more information.

Our "God is Not a Republican...or a Democrat" petition (www.takebackourfaith.org) is being well-received by the media. Look for another overview of Sojourners' press coverage in Friday's SojoMail, including commentary by Jim Wallis on President Bush's convention speech.

Please stay tuned!

Though in my house we have to work around Jeopardy.

"Father Job was praying the Rosary before Holy Mass…when he was attacked and knifed to death. Our diocesan community is profoundly affected by this incident. We don't know who could have killed him," said Bishop James Pazhayattil of Irinjalakuda.

Sources of the local Church reported that the priest had received intimidating telephone calls some time ago, threatening him with death if he did not cease to "proselytize."

“Father Job used to visit Hindu families, who welcomed him warmly. He did not proselytize,” the bishop stressed.
