But they came for Tanya this morning. Single mother, Brighton Beach. I don't want to say Russian, because she was part Jewish, and I am told some of the old timers don't care for that. I don't want to say Jewish, because it was on the wrong side of the family to count. Ukrainian? Perhaps. The victim of a slower genocide than that I linked to the other day, she was not permitted to move away from the vicinity of the reactor meltdown. There may be some hope that the tumor around her thyroid is benign, if it is a tumor at all, but it seems to be causing numerous medical issues. She was on vacation last week; they got her as soon as she came back. And I suppose when Inna comes back from her maternity leave they will get her too. And I suppose the rest of us are relatively safe for the time being. This is the sort of bold move that earns our CEO his seventeen million a year.

"Yakumo's Irish background may not be too well-known, but his works would not be what they are without the influence of Ireland," says Bon Koizumi, Hearn's great-grandson and an adviser to the Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum in Shimane.

[livejournal.com profile] seraphimsigrist notes that we have both posted on Japan today, and I see now that MeFi is linking this St. Patrick's Day story from Japan Today, on a man who, like the gentleman I linked to earlier, made his home there. Perhaps you know him as the writer of the stories Kurosawa filmed so exquisitely in Kwaidan, or have perceived the kinship between those remarkable evocations and the early manner of Willy Yeats, a somewhat distant kinsman perhaps, whose studies have overlapped to a certain extent with those of so many of my LJ friends.
