Now that my list of dedicated readers has broken a hundred, I feel bad about not posting more. It has been a busy holiday season, and I don't know how to write about it all. Oh, well.
I notice my last entry directed you attention to Dr. Z. Yesterday I found that Barnes and Nobles on Astor Place has started to carry The American Conservative, and that he has a very insightful lead article in the current issue. Take a look if you get the chance, even, or especially, if you don't think of yourself as a conservative. That term has been hijacked by the war party, and they don't deserve it at all, at all. I also bought the current Chronicles, which takes a similar line.
What I really went downtown for was a fairly unknown book by Michael Oakeshott, whom I rashly offered to give a talk on, and this offer seems to have been taken up. I am bemused by this, as I gave up the idea of an academic career years, nay, decades ago. Years, decades, spent teaching school and, lately, geeking at a bank. Perhaps I shall find something to say worth the hearing, worth the trip to Pike's Peak, first time I shall have been West of Chicago since never mind when. Not that I have been to Chicago all that often, or even Philadelphia, though I get to Hoboken from time to time.
Peace to all, and Merry Christmas to our Russians, though a couple of days late.
Frank
